Heartland Humane Society adoption process involves filling out our Adoption Application first and mailing that to : Heartland Humane Society, PO Box 585, Yankton, SD 57078. Once the application is reviewed, we will set up a time to meet with you and the animal you are interested in, to be sure of a good fit for all involved. In the case of other dogs, we prefer that a meeting is set where your dog can meet the dog in question as well. In many cases there are several applications for the same animal to be reviewed, so it is not always a guarantee you will be chosen as the new, forever home for that animal. Our decisions are made in the best interest of the animal and our goal is to make the best choice possible to ensure the animals health, safety, and happiness. HHS animals are all seen by a vet and provided with necessary vaccinations and spayed or neutered. Because of the care provided, we do require an adoption fee to help offset these expenses. Anything donated over and above this is greatly appreciated. Below is a list of our fees. Adult dogs (over 1 yr old) $100.00 Puppies (under 1 yr old) $125.00 Adult cats (over 1 yr old) $ 50.00 Kittens (under 1 yr old) $ 60.00 **We reserve the right to increase fees for purebred animals** Any animal that is too young to be spayed or neutered at time of adoption will also require a deposit of $50.00 to ensure that you will get the procedure done. Once we receive notice that the animal has been neutered, the $50.00 is refunded. If you are chosen as the new home for that animal, you will also be asked to sign an Adoption Contract. |
