Questions to ask yourself BEFORE adopting a pet.

Please be aware that the Heartland Humane Society has a very limited physical facility/shelter at this time that can only house a small number of cats.

We rely on our Foster Caregivers to provide homes for some of the cats and all of the dogs that come under our care. 

We also post Lost/Missing pets & Found animals on this site in hopes of finding their owners or a new home.

Found
With the help of a dog walker, HHS found a younger cat along the creek near the shelter. The cat is a light orange in color, short hair female. Estimate age of 6 to 12 months.  Very friendly. If you have any more information on this cat, please call HHS at 664.4244

Two large mixed breed dogs - one short hair tan and red dog and one brown and black mixture lost near Center, Nebraska. Not neutered. If you have any information, call HHS at 605.664.4244                                                                                         2/8/12

Black and white Jack Russell Terrier was lost on the upper bluff of Deer Blvd. Has a black collar with old tags that say "Tiff." He is also wearing a red flea collar. If you have any information on Tiff, please call Gina at 665-4100.                                     2/7/12

 Missing from East Hwy 50 about 2-3 miles East of Yankton:  Black American Pit with white chest and jaw line.  She is a year old, and probably not wearing her collar anymore.  She is a nice dog, and good with people, maybe a bit alpha towards other dogs though.  If you have seen her, or know where she might be or what may have happened to her, please call 760-7462 or HHS 605-664-4244.  Her family is missing her and her sister would really like her back home too!

Missing since January 15, 2012. "Ziggy." Black and tan male Chihuahua. Approx. 8-1/2 lbs. Wearing green hoody and camo harness at time of disappearance. Great dog--family misses him!!!
