General

Help us help abandoned and unwanted animals. Heartland Humane Society is a not-for-profit supported solely by private donations, with no United Way or governmental monies.

100% of your donation will go towards the costs of operating our shelter - including veterinary care for our animals, food and supplies, and facility expenses.

Your compassion and assistance is vitally important. If you wish to receive a contribution statement via email for you donation and tax records, please note so in your comments section.

Planned Giving

In 2022, Heartland Humane Society established a variety of financial accounts to make estate giving easier for you! We have open accounts with Edward Jones and Vangaard. Planned Giving helps HHS complete larger projects and prepare for the future. Estate gifts over $5,000 are directed towards our financial savings program and are only used at board discretion. To date, HHS has over $350,000 set aside. To learn more, we encourage you to invite the Executive Director, Kerry Feilmeier, to visit about the future of HHS and the plans we have. You can reach Kerry at edirector@sdheartlandhumanesociety.com or call the shelter at 605-664-4244.

Paw Sponsor

If you are unable to adopt, but still want to contribute to Heartland Humane Society - you can do so by sponsoring a pet! You pay a one-time fee of $50 and you or we select an animal to put your donation towards. Your donation will help defray the costs of food, housing and medical care for the animals waiting for adoption. In return for your donation, you will get: a picture of the pet you are sponsoring, their history of how they arrived and the status on when your pet has been adopted.
