Grab a book and a furry friend! Heartland Humane Society's Book Buddies program returns for its fall session, running October 21 through December 9, starting at 4 p.m.
Designed for children in grades K–5, Book Buddies gives young readers a fun, relaxed, and judgment-free place to practice their reading skills. Our shelter animals make the perfect audience. They don't interrupt, correct mistakes, or care how fast you read. They're just happy to have someone spend time with them!
Younger readers are welcome to bring an older sibling, parent, or friend to help. All ages are welcome to join in the fun because, as far as our animals are concerned, there's no age limit on friendship!
Build confidence, practice reading, and brighten a shelter animal's day—one story at a time!
